Messages of commemoration flooded Twitter to mark the death anniversary of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, murdered 14 years ago on this day in a bomb blast that seared the hearts of her followers and many more across the country.
Her children reminisced about the moments their mother missed, with her son and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari posting a message of remembrance alongside a photo of Bhutto’s infamous shrouded head leading a full crowd.
Our mother Shaheed #BenazirBhutto missed more now than I did when I got my grades for college or whilst graduating, even when I was planning my wedding, marriage ceremony, months of pregnancy- now with my newborn – she would have been a grandmother for the first time this year 💔 https://t.co/jJLIMHG6xF

Although her death occurred over a decade ago, for some, the day still stirs strong emotions of the hopes and dreams Bhutto represented as the country’s first female prime minister.
December 27th 2007 left me broken and filled with rage. Every year the wounds reopen and the rage simmers to the surface. In its unending and unquenchable lust for power and control, the establishment killed Pakistans best hope. And with it condemned all of us too.

The course of History would have been different had BB not been eliminated.
A sad day for democracy and Pakistan

What were you doing when you heard about BB?
It was late evening and I had just returned from work. There were reports of a blast and then my father called me and confirmed that she had died. I remember crying. I remember it as if it was yesterday. pic.twitter.com/VnC4uOeNdk— Maria Rashid ماریہ (@mariarshd) December 26, 2021
Under the hashtag #WohLarkliLalQalandarThi, many shared pictures and quotes from their beloved BB.

Bhutto was assassinated in Rawalpindi on 27 December, 2007, when armed men shot at her convoy and a suicide bomb was detonated shortly after. She was campaigning for her third term as prime minister. An additional 23 bystanders were killed in the incident.
