The lawyer representing the owner of Therapy Works in the Noor Mukadam murder case on Wednesday requested the court for an in-camera hearing of the case to play the CCTV footage of the incident.
Noor Mukadam who was found murdered at a residence in Islamabad’s posh area, Sector F-7/4 on July 20. An FIR was lodged under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code against primary accused Zahir Zakir Jaffer. On the same day, he was arrested from the site of the murder.
Zahir worked at Therapy Works. In October, after further investigation, six more officials of Therapy Works were nominated in the case, including the owner Tahir Zahoor and Zahir Jaffer’s parents.
Tahir Zahoor’s lawyer, Akram Qureshi, solicited the court to play CCTV footage of the incident for the clarification of certain details. He also requested the court to conduct an in-camera hearing during the cross-examination of the footage.
Additional Sessions Judge Atta Rabbani said the court would entertain the request for in-camera hearing of the high-profile case within legal bounds.
Last month, Electronic Media Regulatory Authority had prohibited all satellite television channels from airing the leaked CCTV footage of the incident. Later, the prosecution had also submitted the transcript of the CCTV footage to the court.
Zahir’s lawyer, Sikandar Zulqarnain Saleem, argues that Zahir has been suffering from a chronic mental disorder or schizoaffective disorder because of drug psychosis which needs diagnosis through a licit medical board in the light of local and international law. He further claimed that Zahir was in the same condition when he was arrested on July 20, when Noor, the daughter of a former Pakistani diplomat, was murdered.
The court sought arguments from the parties on December 15 regarding the application requesting the formation of a medical board to determine Zahir’s mental state.
Further, the court adjourned the hearing until December 15 and summoned the victim’s father, Shaukat Mukadam, to record his statement. A witness, computer operator Mudassir, will also be called for cross-examination.
