Pakistan has rejected ‘categorically’ India’s response to an incident pertaining to a Pakistani model’s fashion shoot at the Kartarpur Corridor, summoning a senior diplomat from the Indian High Commission to convey the reaction.

Photos from the shoot went viral on social media when an Indian influencer tweeted it, lamenting that the model disrespected the sacred place. Minister Fawad Chaudhry had reacted to the tweet and condemned the photoshoot.

A statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday said that India gave a ‘mischievous spin’ to the issue. Pakistan said that the incident was duly addressed. The statement read, “Government of Pakistan accords the highest primacy to the rights of the minorities. Sanctity of religious places and revered sites of every community is ensured in the country.”

The Indian diplomat was also asked by Pakistani officials to ask their government to look into the instances of mistreatment of minorities in India, instead of levelling allegations against Pakistan.

The statement further said, “Given its systematic marginalisation and brutalisation of minorities, India has no locus standi to even feign concern for minorities elsewhere.”
