In another development in the Noor Mukadam murder case, Zahir Jaffar, the prime accused, refused to sign power of attorney, which would have given him legal representation. Zahir insisted that he was waiting for Barrister Babur, who would be his lawyer but the said person never showed up in court.
The lawyers representing the accused, including Zahir’s father Zakir Jaffar, his mother Asmat Adamjee, Therapyworks, and the domestic staff at Zahir’s house, demanded that they be provided with the full CCTV footage of the incident. The said footage had been doing the rounds on social media for several days which had prompted the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to ban all media outlets from airing it as it had disturbing content.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had earlier ordered that the footage be provided to all concerned.
During the proceeding, Dr. Shazia, who was part of the team that conducted Noor’s post-mortem, appeared as a witness. She informed the court that the post-mortem was conducted by another doctor on her directives. The counsel of one of the accused said that Dr. Shazia could not testify because she had provided supplementary evidence.
27-year-old Noor was brutally murdered on the July 20 at the residence of Zahir Jaffar in a posh area of Sector F-7/4, Islamabad. The police had said that Zahir had blood all over his clothes and body when they arrived on the scene. Following the news, 'justice for Noor' had begun trending on social media. The prime minister had also taken notice of the violent murder and ordered the police to conduct a thorough investigation.
