A 40-year-old Ahmadi man identified as Kamran Ahmad was shot dead by unknown assailants in Peshawar on Tuesday evening.
The victim leaves behind a widow and three minor children. He worked at an industry on Industrial Estate Kohat Road, Peshawar. He was at work when an unknown man opened fire at him. Ahmad died on the spot.
According to a press release issued by the Ahmadi community, he did not have have personal enmity with anyone. This is the second case of targeted killing of Ahmadis in Peshawar this year. In total, five Ahmadis were killed in Peshawar alone in the last two years.
Sources say that the factory where the slain Kamran Ahmad worked was owned by an Ahmadi businessman who was in the process of selling it due to the rising cases of violence against Ahmadis in the city. He had already sold one of his factories before this incident.
The spokesperson of the Ahmadi community, in a statement, termed this incident as an act of religiously motivated hatred. He noted that there has been a rise in the number of cases of violence against Ahmadis in the past few months amid hate speech against the community. He added that the government of Pakistan has failed to protect members of the Ahmadi community.
