Reports in print media suggest that the appointment of the new DG ISI will be notified next Wednesday.

Insiders close to the developments in the power corridors have told newsmen that after the appointment of the new spy chief is notified, the incumbent DG ISI Faiz Hamid, will join the Peshawar Corps as announced by the ISPR.

The sources have also claimed that interviews for the post of DG ISI, as desired by the prime minister, are unlikely to be held as the issue “has been resolved.”

These insiders have also disclosed that till Friday, a summary for appointment of the DG ISI had not been forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office.

A controversy around the appointment of DG ISI has been doing rounds since October 6, when the ISPR announced the latest postings and transfers. The issue was discussed in the last cabinet meeting. According to PTI’s chief whip in the National Assembly Amir Dogar, the prime minister wanted to retain the incumbent DG ISI for another two to four months.

Dogar claimed in an interview that Khan wanted to retain Hameed in the role of DG ISI due to the situation in Afghanistan.

It is expected that Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum, the person originally named in the ISPR notification, will be appointed as the DG ISI.

Insiders have claimed that the incumbent DG ISI had expressed his desire to take on his new assignment, which is important for him to be eligible for the post of army chief in November next year.
