Proposals to bifurcate Lahore in two districts were discussed at a high-level meeting presided by Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Tuesday.
It is being proposed that Lahore, a megapolis of a population of at least 11.3 million, be bifurcated in two districts on administrative grounds.
Senior members of Board of Revenue presented their proposals in this regard. The chief minister was told that the administrative bifurcation of the city would require creation of new tehsils in Lahore.
Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said Lahore was becoming overpopulated and its bifurcation in two districts on administrative grounds was much needed. However, he added, the final decision would be made after political consensus. The chief minister sought final proposals in this regard along with a new map indicating all areas of Lahore.
The chief secretary, senior members of the Board of Revenue and principal secretary to the chief minister were in attendance.
Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar also presided over a high-level meeting which approved the establishment of schools of excellence in Koh-e-Suleman, a tribal area of DG Khan.
The meeting deliberated on proposals to set up public schools for boys and girls in the tribal areas.
The chief minister sought final proposals for these public schools and asked for a master plan of the schools to be prepared.
The CM said that the Punjab government was providing quality education to students of far-flung areas having limited resources and also establishing quality schools in difficult terrains. He said it would be a beneficial investment on the new generation as it would help to discourage the trends of extremism in tribal areas.
