A notification purportedly issued by the Punjab Provincial Transport Authority is circulating on social media, which prohibits transport vehicles from playing movies, “vulgarity” or music. The notification prescribes, instead, that recitation of the Holy Quran and devotional material such as hamd and naat be played in vehicles.

According to the notification, these prohibitions are issued in the context of the Punjab Governmet’s celebrations of “Shan-e-Rahmataul-Lil-Alameen” (sic), from the 1st to the 12th of the month of Rabi-al-Awal in the Islamic lunar calendar.
