Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has said that the appointment of the new chief of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) will be made as per the rules and regulations.

He issued this statement while addressing a press conference following a weekly meeting of the federal cabinet.

He stated that the government and the military had ‘ideal’ relations, adding that a ‘long meeting’ was held between Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Prime Minister Imran Khan to discuss the issues pertaining to the new spy chief’s appointment.

The minister further said that the two leaders enjoy cordial relations, adding that the government will never do anything that would undermine the military and vice versa.

Fawad also said that the new chief’s appointment will be made as per the rules agreed upon by COAS Bajwa and PM Imran Khan.

Fawad said that it was the prime minister who has the authority to appoint the new DG. He reiterated that the decision would be taken after due consultations.
