Punjab Govt Moves Supreme Court Against LHC's Decision Ordering Saad Rizvi's Release
Punjab government has moved the Supreme Court (SC) challenging Lahore High Court (LHC)'s decision ordering banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Saad Rizvi's release.

The petition filed by the provincial government makes Rizvi's uncle the respondent in the case, arguing that the release order was not issued as per legal formalities.

In the petition, the provincial government defended its decision to place Rizvi under detention, adding that the high court was given a whole record of the case.

The Punjab government also called on the top court to suspend the high court's verdict in this regard. Earlier this month, the lHC had order Saad Rizvi's release, terming his detention 'illegal'.

The court had issued the orders after while hearing an application filed by Saad Rizvi’s uncle Ameer Hussain.
On July 2, the provincial review board had dismissed the government’s application under MPO to extend Saad Rizvi’s detention.

Saad Rizvi was detained once again on July 10 under the Anti-Terrorism Act after the plea to extend his detention was rejected.

DC issues release orders

On Saturday, the Lahore Deputy Commissioner had issued a notification ordering Saad Rizvi’s release, which he said was being done in compliance of the high court order.

The notification said that the order was being issued in compliance of the Lahore High Court (LHC) orders saying that Rizvi should be released if he is not wanted in any other case. It further said that the matter was discussed during a meeting of the Federal Review Board (FBR) held at the apex court, and the case was dispose of.
