Supreme Court Rules Women's Inheritance Cannot Be Claimed After Their Death
The Supreme Court (SC) has ruled that claim on a woman's inheritance could only be made in her lifetime and her children could not claim her inheritance after her death.

The top court was hearing a case filed by the children of two deceased women seeking a share in their maternal grandfather's property.

Their grandfather, Isa Khan, had given his property to his son in 1935, but did not give the same to his two daughters. The sisters had not questioned the move or claimed inheritance in their lifetime.
However, in 2004, the women's children filed a petition claiming their share in the man's property in lieu of what he owed their mothers.

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) had cancelled an earlier verdict issued by a civil court in this case. The Supreme Court on Thursday issued its verdict and upheld the high court's decision saying that the inheritance cannot be claimed by the women's children.

The court ruled that a woman's inheritance can only be claimed in his lifetime. While hearing the case, Justice Umar Ata Bandial said that Pakistan's law protected women's inheritance rights.
