New Federal Dress Code Bans Jeans, Citing 'Research' About Perceptions
The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has issued its dress code for teachers working in federal government institutions. In support of its new dress code, the Directorate has stated the following (sic):
“Research evidences have proven that an attire which has had the influences on the perceptions of viewers whether students or outsiders, is more than just a wearing.”

Under this perspective, the new dress code bans female teachers from wearing jeans or tights. Meanwhile, male teachers cannot wear jeans and T-shirts. Moreover, the staff have to wear teaching gowns or lab coats, depending on the setting. Both formal and comfortable footwear is allowed, but not slippers.

For men who wear shalwar-qameez, the waistcoat is now mandatory. Dress shirts for males are required to be “preferably full-sleeves.”

And for women, the regulations prescribe:
“Weather appropriate simple and decent shalwar qameez/trousers shirt with dopatta/shawl”
