We’ve all heard The Great Khan’s threat that he will dissolve Parliament and call fresh elections, but will not bow before blackmailers and hand out NROs to them. Well, well, well! This is a tall claim, considering he’s been parleying with a leading member of the Blackmailers’ Club recently. And anyway, pundits say these are empty threats, only meant to scare his Selectors. Stand by me, come hell or high water, or else …. Sher aya, sher aya!
Isloo’s wags are saying that the same page myth should be put to rest now that a divergence has emerged on two important points, amongst others.
For one, Big B told reporters in an off the record session recently that peace with India was essential. The Great Khan, asked about his response to this statement, did not buy in. Secondly, it is rumoured that Big B declared that the TLP should be mainstreamed, or else. The Great Khan stated the exact opposite. In fact, he has entrusted some members of his inner sanctum, including Chaudhry Einstein and the human Rightist, with the task of making a legal case for the permanent banning of the TLP by striking them off the electoral register once and for all. Natch, The Khan fears that The Boyz may put up the TLP at the next hustings, as an option to the unpopular PTI, to undo the peoples’ mandate once again. He should know …
Creative thinking, we hear, is the new refrain along with reconsidering fresh options for self-preservation. This is because they haven’t been able to get rid of the Qazi. The last thing they want is to have general elections on the Qazi’s watch, which begins in September 2023, just a month after the dissolution of the National Assembly and the beginning of the election cycle.
So, the grapevine is buzzing with rumours of an early election, at any “suitable” time between June 2021 (après The Budget) and the beginning of next year. But that is a Pandora’s box, the opening of which is fraught with danger for the currently powerful. No deal will hold once there is a new power equation in place and new players on the block.
