Passing the buck

The buzz in Isbad is that each time members of The Great Khan’s horde are asked about one or the other failing, they immediately pass the buck and say, “the real rulers of this realm will take care of the problems. It’s not up to us”. This answer comes up again and again, in frank discussions with journos and concerned citizens. May God have mercy on us all.

Temporary expulsion

We hear The Sheikh of Lal Haveli made an appalling suggestion in a meeting of The Khan’s inner cabal the other day. The subject under discussion was how to deal with the Tehrik-e-Labaik and the late KHR’s successor. Readers will recall that this group had called for the expulsion from Pakistan of L’ambassadeur de France. The Sheikh apparently suggested that His Excellency be “temporarily expelled” and allowed back in once the song and dance had died down. Our mole reports that one or two sane heads rejected this bright idea and laid down what might happen in the event.

The European Union is Pakistan’s most important trading partner, absorbing almost a quarter of all exports from the country. Pakistan also benefits from generous trade preferences under the GSP+ arrangement, which aims to support good governance and sustainable development. In order to maintain GSP+, Pakistan has to ratify and implement core international conventions on human rights etc. The Sheikh’s detractors made the compelling argument that expelling L’ambassadeur de France at the behest of the Tehrik-e-Labaik could jeopardise this status and cost Pakistani exports. As usual, the meeting concluded on the usual mantra, “Let the real rulers take care of the T-e-L” and so it was!

Sour grapes

In an ironical twist, an unexpected source has voluntarily rallied to YRG’s defence in the impending Senate elections. This is none other than his original nemesis, His Lordship of the Restoration, who disqualified him from premiership back in the day. His former lordship has been exchanging messages with YRG, pointing to his opponent HS’s original sin in not declaring his dual nationality when he first became part of government. YRG has seen through his Lordship’s offering of sour grapes and turned away.
