None of the above

There’s been much speculation about why The Man of Steel didn’t speak at the Karachi jalsa. Could this be a conciliatory move towards The Boyz? Was The Man backtracking from his courageous and outspoken stance? Did Young Bill dissuade him? Did the late lamented Big Ben’s Hubby think the better of it? The truth is that it’s none of the above.

The Man of Steel has chosen his heir and it is his intrepid daughter. She didn’t make an elaborate speech at Gujranwala because The Man of Steel had made the Mother of All Speeches. So, he made a conscious decision not to speak at Karachi so as to give her the floor. And sources say, The Man will speak boldly at the impending Quetta jalsa, so wait for it!

Violence in the air

We all know about the recent tragic fire in a Lahore electronics hub, in which millions were lost and many shops went up in smoke. The Press reported that a woman minister arrived to commiserate many hours after the event and while the building was still aflame. Some television footage was aired with people shouting angry slogans against The Great Khan and in support of The Man of Steel. What wasn’t shown however was the violence in the air, with people hurling shoes at the minister and she being taken in a protective cordon by the police and moved away from the scene. Our mole reports that the minister got calls from her colleagues and they told her plainly that they “gave up” going into their Lahore constituencies “long ago”. They said there was so much outrage on the street that they were afraid of conflagrations.

Truth to power

So, a member of The Great Khan’s cabinet had the gall to stand up and speak truth to power. He basically said that inflation was the government’s biggest enemy and that somehow, governance had gone out of the window early in the day in favour of repression. He spoke about the sugar report and asked rhetorically, “what came of it? Nothing”. The Khan heard him through and apparently replied that the gent “did not have the whole picture”. Most members of the cabinet were quiet but many came up to their brave colleague later and patted him on the back.
