Action
According to Daily Jang (09 March 2020), a number of religious figures had decided to go to court against the organizers of the Aurat March, so as to bring an end to those who wanted to attack our culture and traditions under a Western agenda (Maghribi agenda per hamari tehzeeb o tamadun per hamla-awar honay walon ko mantiqi anjam tak pohancha kar chorein ge). The religious figures noted that it was regrettable that stones had been thrown at the March in Islamabad, and that it was with such concerns that they had knocked on the door of the DC in Islamabad and the Islamabad High Court, but authorities had failed. Further, they noted, that despite assurances by the organizers of the March that there would be no objectionable slogans, this year all previous records were broken (sabqa tamam record bhee torr diay gae) by the marchers.
Buzdar’s approach
Chief Minister of Punjab Usman Buzdar, according to Daily Jang (09 March 2020), claimed that he had never done and would never do any work merely for display (numaishi kaam kiay hein na karein ge). The CM further stated that his work spoke for itself (hamaray kaam khud boltay hein). He continued and noted that those who spread rumours would face failure everywhere. He went on to say that his administration’s intentions were pure and their direction was correct. Everyone was working together, he stated, and nobody would have the need to complain. No obstacles to the progress and prosperity of the people of the province would be tolerated, he noted.
Overruled?
Daily Dunya (12 March 2020) reported that Abdullah Abdullah claimed that as soon as he took oath, the previous government was finished, and that soon a new chief executive would be announced. Just before this, Ashraf Ghani’s spokesperson had stated that the President had issued an order abolishing the position of chief executive.
Animal fats
According to Daily Express (12 March 2020), the Director Upper Region of the Sindh Food Control Authority Ayesha Junejo had revealed that in Sukkur and other regions of upper and rural Sindh, ever year many tens of millions of rupees worth of unpacked edible oil was prepared, which was highly injurious to health. Lab tests had revealed fat and parts from cats and dogs in it.
Backbenchers Arise
Daily Dunya (14 March 2020) reported that despite intensification of disputes over backbenchers not being permitted to participate in the business of the House, in 20 sessions of the National Assembly more than 120 members had not opened their mouth to say anything or introduce any legislation.
