Truth will out

Daily Jang (06 January 2020) informed its readers that sometimes the truth comes out inadvertently (kabhi kabhi sach zuban per aa hee jata hai) and that Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu admitted to Israel being a nuclear power. Netanyahu described his country as a “nuclear power” at a weekly cabinet meeting before correcting it to “energy power”.

The other perspective

According to Daily Jang (11 January 2020), Murad Saeed stated that Rana Sanaullah had expressed his perspective on the narcotics case but that there is another side to the picture and this was the position of the Anti Narcotics Force (ANF). He also went on to say that Shehryar Afridi would soon clarify the other side in Parliament.

Bootgate

The PTI’s Faisal Vawda, according to Daily Dunya (16 January 2020), stated that he had spoken to PM Imran Khan about the Boot incident. He clarified that the responsibility for taking the Boot onto the programme was his own. He further stated that the PM had told him in English that he was unhappy with his Boot act (angrezi zuban mein kaha ke woh meri Boot wali harkat se khush nahin).

Nothing serious

Federal Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed was quoted by Daily Dunya (16 January 2020) as saying that there would not be a Motion of No Confidence against the government. In his view, people were just having fun (loog mazay kar rahay hein) and that after two months of anger, politics would be rearranged (siyasat ooper neeche hogi) but that Imran Khan would remain PM.

Of Boots and Bhoots

Siraj-ul-Haq of the Jamaat-e-Islami, according to Daily Express (17 January 2020), claimed that the seriousness of those who made the Boot into a Bhoot (ghoul) was on display in front of everyone. In his view, the government is moving towards the end, and that in its efforts to placate outsiders it had alienated its own (ghairon ko manatay manatay hakoomat se apnay bhee roothnay lagay hein).

On the critics

Chief Minister of Punjab Usman Buzdar was quoted by Daily Dunya (19 January 2020) as saying that those who were criticizing him just for the sake of criticism were not well-wishers of the country and the nation (tanqeed baraye tanqeed karnay walay mulk o qaum ke kher-khwah nahin). He went on to note that his administration’s purpose was to give relief to the masses, whereas the critics were merely pushing their personal agenda.
