Projection


Daily Jang (30 December 2019) quoted a report by the UK’s Centre for Economics and Business Research which stated that by 2034, Pakistan will be the world’s 50th biggest economic power. The report predicted that in that year, China would be the biggest economy, the United States the second-biggest and India third in the world.


Bilawal’s critique


The PPP’s Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was quoted by Daily Express (04 January 2020) as saying that the PML-N did not take the rest of the opposition into confidence before supporting the government on the Amendment Act in parliament. He went on to point out that the PML-N had supported the legislation unconditionally, which was not the right thing to do.


New Year’s Outrage


Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (31 December 2019) informed its readers that the trend of drinking and dancing at parties for New Year’s Night is picking up fast in Pakistan (New Year Night ke mauqa per sharab o dance partion ka rujhan tezi se zor pakkar raha hai). Soundproof halls have been established in certain houses. The report stated that while powerful and wealthy members of the elite were involved in such parties, rich young people studying at universities were also not left behind – and were organizing mixed parties like their elders (makhlut partion ke ineqad mein apnay barron ke ham-palla hein). Aside from this, in hotels, it was possible to set up dance-floors if young people pool in the money needed. Moreover, the report stated that young people could also rent suites at these hotels for mini-parties where alcohol and hashish (chars) were freely available.


Defiance


PM Imran Khan, according to Daily Jang (31 December 2019), stated that Indian PM Narendra Modi’s dream of Hindu supremacy will never be fulfilled (Hindu bartari ke liay Modi ka khwab kabhi poora nahin hoga).


Promises


According to Daily Dunya (04 January 2020), CM Punjab Usman Buzdar stated that Punjab would take the lead in the race for economic progress, and that 2020 would be the year of ending poverty (2020 ghurbat ke khatimay ka saal hai). He went on to promise that every citizen would enjoy the fruits of this prosperity.
