Social media

Madam,

Social media helps us in every regard. It enables us to communicate with people living far away. Social media often acts as a source of news and also enables people to get together for activism. On the other hand, it is full of disadvantages. Some people have been compelled to commit suicide because of issues related to social media. There is a constant assault on our senses of information, advertisements and political messaging. Many people also end up getting blackmailed for one reason or the other due apps on their phones. There are lots of apps which people can use to communicate with each other like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and Instagram. There are billions of downloads of these apps. Facebook has 4.119 billion downloads, Twitter 833.858 billion, WhatsApp 2.979 billion and Instagram has 1.843 billion downloads. So, we can judge this that social media is snatching our enjoyments and community. People should limit their social media use for their own well-being.

Rahmatullah Shafiq,

Tragic moment

Madam,

A tragic incident took place on December 13 last year. As many as 13 people were killed in a road accident near Kan-Mehtarzai. Road accidents continue to occur in our areas. This bus was travelling from Lahore to Qali Saifullah with 14 passengers. It met an accident Kan-Mehtarzai as it hit a pick-up loaded with smuggled oil, which caught by fire as a result of the collision. Only one passenger survived as he managed to jump off from the bus in time. I request the government to do something about road safety. Hundreds of people are dying every day and no one bats an eye. It is the responsibility of the government to protect the lives of the people as they travel on roads which they have paid for through their taxes.

Mashraf Ashraf,

Turbat.

Fire in Australia

Madam,

We are watching the bushfire emergency in Australia with great fear. The recent fires have enveloped several major cities of Australia, like New South Wales, where the toxic smoke made a very thick black blanket in the sky. It was a dangerous situation for the people living near the seaside towns. It has killed 18 people in rural areas and destroyed more than 1,000 homes. Firefighters in Australia took advantage of cooler weather on Tuesday to try and strengthen containment lines about almost 200 fires burning in the country’s southeast, as two more people were reported missing. Fires that started in September have swept through more than 8 million hectares (19.8 million acres) of land, an area nearly the size of Austria, killing 25 people and destroying or damaging thousands of homes across the country’s southeast.
