Unforgiven
Chief Minister of Punjab Usman Buzdar, according to Daily Jang (18 November 2019), stated that the nation would never forgive those who waste valuable time with pointless protest and dharnas. He further stated that the current situation requires sober politics rather than that driven by passions (maujuda haalaat mein josh nahin balke hosh ki raah pe chalnay ki zarurat hai) and that it was necessary for the well-being of the nation that negative politics be abandoned.
Beyond the two D’s
Federal railways minister Sheikh Rasheed opined, according to Daily Jang (18 November 2019), that Nawaz Sharif had received neither a deal nor lenience (dheel). In his view, the courts had protected the dignity (izzat) of both the government and Nawaz Sharif.
Officials vs reality
Daily Express (22 November 2019) reported that despite the imports of tomatoes from Iran and the arrival of a fresh crop from Sindh, the price of tomatoes could not be brought down in the market. The price ranged from 200 to 300 rupees per kilogram in various cities of the country. In the case of Lahore, the official rate has been set at 195 rupees per kilogram, but citizens throughout that city were purchasing it for between 250 to 300.
Beneficiaries
According to Daily Dunya (23 November 2019), federal minister Ali Amin Gandapur was listing out the benefits from high prices of essential goods. In his view, if tomatoes and vegetables become expensive, our farmers benefit from it (hamaray kissan bhaiyon ka faida ho raha hai).
