Let them eat cake

A prominent minister’s begum, who shall remain nameless, recently made a statement reminiscent of Marie Antoinette’s infamous phrase, “let them eat cake”. The queen said this when she was told that the starving people of pre-Revolutionary France could not afford bread. Begum Sahiba was on a shopping spree, when a shop assistant complained about inflation, saying that he could no longer afford to buy fruit for his family. “Well then”, declared Begum Sahiba, “don’t eat fruit!”

Vindication

The incarcerated Rana has finally been vindicated, because his initial claim that the authorities found no narcotics on him when they first apprehended him has been proven true. His detractors had claimed that he was arrested back in July at around 3.25 pm near Lahore’s Ravi toll plaza, with the offensive material in his possession. The Rana had denied this, saying that nothing was found on him and that he was simply whisked away in his own car, and taken to his tormentors’ headquarters where the offense was planted on him. Supporting this claim, the Rana’s defence team produced CCTV footage in court proving that no operation had taken place and that he had been right all along. The prosecution has not been able to prove otherwise. Can we now finally expect justice for the Rana?

A penchant for curry

A fly on the wall tells us that the Duchess of Cambridge is a huge fan of desi food and that she loves spicy curries. Upon arrival in Pakistan, we hear, she asked for a taste of the country’s most famous piquant dish and was offered a plate of piping hot nihari with naan. One of the staff apparently advised against it on the first day of her visit, lest it upset her stomach, and it was recommended that she wait for the banquet in Lahore where she would have a taste of her favourite food.
