Crackdown

Daily Express (27 August 2019) reported that all over the country, authorities were engaged in a crackdown on cable operators who illegally provided viewers access to Indian channels or content from India. Equipment was seized and licenses canceled as part of this action by field staff.

More time needed

According to Daily Jang (27 August 2019), Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan expressed her view that one year was not enough time to replace the flawed system in place in the country since many years. She further stated that the struggle would continue.

What the opponents lacked

PM Imran Khan was quoted by Daily Jang (27 August 2019) as saying that he became Prime Minister after having taken a U-turn, whereas his opponents were in jail (mein U-turn ley kar Wazir-e-Azam bann gya aur meray mukhalifeen jail’on mein hein). He further emphasized that compromises should be done for one’s objective, not at the expense of one’s objective (maqsad ke liay samjhota hona chahiye, maqsad par nahin).

A Tale of Two Meters

It was reported by Daily Express (28 August 2019) that LESCO authorities stated that they had found an MPA from the PML-N stealing electricity at her Mughalpura residence in Lahore. The authorities claim her residence stole electricity worth some Rs. 500,000 using a fake meter.

Who’s afraid of ghosts?

Daily Jang (28 August 2019) quoted India’s Lt. Gen. M.M. Narawane as saying that Pakistan could try to scare India with its nuclear bogey – but that the latter would not be frightened (Pakistan hamein atomi bhoot se daraa sakta hai leykin hum darnay waalay nahin hein).

Priorities

Federal Minister for Information Technology Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui was quoted by Daily Jang (29 August 2019) as saying that it was more important to clean the trash from the mind before cleaning the trash in Karachi (Karachi ke kacchray se ziyada zehn ka kacchra saaf karna zaroori hai).

Outreach by the Israeli military

It was reported by Daily Jang (30 August 2019) that Israel had activated a number of accounts in Farsi so as to reach out to citizens of Iran. The report stated that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) were operating such accounts so as to convince Iranians that their true enemy was, in fact, the oppressive Iranian ruling regime – and not the Israeli military.

Ooops!

The Finance Ministry, according to Daily Dunya (31 August 2019), rejected Firdous Ashiq Awan’s announcement of the “good news” that prices for petroleum products were being lowered. The Finance Ministry took the position that announcements regarding the changing of prices was its prerogative, and not that of a Special Assistant to the PM.

Resolution proposed

It was reported by Daily Express (31 August 2019) that a resolution was submitted to the Punjab Assembly, demanding that the UN reconsider its decision on Priyanka Chopra as a Peace Ambassador.

Coming soon

Sheikh Rasheed was quoted by Daily Dunya (01 September 2019) as saying that a PML-N Two was going to be formed at the federal level – but that he could not say whether it would be led by Shehbaz Sharif or Chaudhry Nisar.
