Higher than the Himalayas

The Chinese Vice President met with CM Usman Buzdar, as reported by Daily Dunya (28 May 2019). The report quoted the Chief Minister of Punjab as saying that a Chinese model would be implemented in Punjab to alleviate poverty.

The end of the U-turn

The PPP’s Khurshid Shah, according to Daily Dunya (27 May 2019), stated that the government could be given no more time. He went on to say that a strategy would be chalked out after Eid against the U-turn rulers (U-turn hukm-raanon ke khilaf).

Airborne and in trouble?

According to Daily Dunya (27 May 2019), Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman is of the view that over the past 9 months the government has led the country into economic crises and a dire political and social situation. He went on to opine that the aircraft of “Kaptaan” had lost communication with the radar and could crash to the ground at any moment.

How Modi won

Khurshid Shah, according to Daily Express (29 May 2019), remarked that PM Imran Khan had become a great faqir indeed – since his prayers had allowed Narendra Modi to be reelected as India’s PM (Khan sahib tou barray faqir ban gae hein jinki dua se Modi jeet gae).

Gold standard

Malaysian PM Mahathir Mohamad was quoted by Daily Express (31 May 2019) as saying that East Asia needed a common currency based on gold. He noted that gold was more stable than the US dollar.

Last opportunity

Daily Jang quoted PM Imran Khan (31 May 2019) as saying that he would not permit tax money to be stolen (tax ka paisa chori nahin honay doonga). He went on to advise that the government’s amnesty scheme be utilized, since the opportunity would not arise again (Amnesty Scheme se faida uthaein, phir mauqa nahin milay ga).

The Seer

The PPP’s Manzoor Wissan, according to Daily Express (01 June 2019), stated that the sacrifice this year would be on the Big Eid (qurbani barri Eid pe hogi). He further claimed that he did not see Imran Khan as Prime Minister in 2020.

Never forget

Daily Dunya (02 June 2019) quoted the PTI’s Firdous Ashiq Awan as saying that nobody should be in any doubt that they won on their own (kisi shakhs ko ye ghalt-fehmi ya khush-fehmi nahin honi chahiye ke agar wohh jeeta hai tou apna bal-botay per jeeta hai). She went on to emphasize that they had won due to Imran Khan and that the party’s internal matters should not be brought onto media.

War within?

Fawad Chaudhry, according to Daily Dunya (02 June 2019), stated that there was a cold war (sard jang) between elected and unelected elements in the PTI. He was quoted as complaining that it was difficult to tell who was making decisions (faislon ka pata nahin chalta) and that it was unelected elements who were behind his own change in ministry too.
