Crackdown


It was reported by Daily Dunya (08 April 2019) that in accordance with the Kite Flying Act, authorities in Punjab had been taking action against violators of the prohibition on flying kites. In this context, the report stated, some 2,806 people had been arrested over the past three months.


Back in business


According to Daily Dunya (09 April 2019), a banned book for students, from a private publisher, had reappeared under a new name. The report explained that the banned book contained immoral (ghair-ikhlaqi) passages, such as one that claimed that intensely hot weather leads to an increase in population (garmi mein shiddat se abadi mein izafa jaisay ghair-ikhlaqi paragraph).


Success


Daily Jang (09 April 2019) quoted Chief Minister of Punjab Usman Buzdar as saying that the PTI-led government had put a stop to wholesale looting (loot-maar ke bazaar ko band kiya hai) and that in a short while, achieved success on every front (mukhtasir arsay mein arsay mein hakoomat ne har mahaz pe kamyabi haasil ki hai).


Education


Daily Jang (10 April 2019) cited an official report to the effect that 60 percent of teachers at government schools in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province were not capable of teaching the material in the syllabus. Moreover, it was found that only 15 to 30 percent of the teachers knew teaching methods.


Trouble in June


Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed, according to Daily Express (11 April 2019), promised to reveal the company that engaged in money-laundering on behalf of Shehbaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari. He predicted that by the 30th of June, all the thieves will be in jail (saaray chor andar honge).


Electioneering


Daily Jang (11 April 2019) informed its readers that political parties in India had adopted a new method to voo voters: handing out bottles of alcoholic drinks with party stickers on them. Moreover, some parties were also distributing bottles of liquor in their constituencies.


Battle royale


According to Daily Express (12 April 2019), engineers serving in various government departments were protesting for increases in pay and allowance outside the Civil Secretariat in Lahore, when some lawyers tried to pass by the area in their cars. On finding their way blocked, they attacked the protesting engineers, and were soon reinforced by more lawyers. Police, according to the report, stood on the sidelines initially, and by the time they intervened, the lawyers had driven away the protesting engineers.


For all the pain


It was reported by Daily Jang (11 April 2019) that despite the devaluation of the rupee, Pakistan’s exports declined 11 percent in March as compared to the previous year.


On films


Fawad Chaudhry was quoted by Daily Jang (12 April 2019) as saying that try as he might, Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman simply couldn’t get his film to sell (jitni koshish kar lein inki film chal nahin pa rahi).
