Rana Sanaullah predicts tears…


Daily Jang (13 Feb 2017) quoted Punjab’s provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah as saying that ‘crying all the time’ (har waqt rona) had become the fate of Imran Khan and Sheikh Rasheed. He went on to say that the two opposition politicians should ‘prepare themselves to cry’ after the next general elections too.

It was reported by Daily Jang (14 Feb 2017) that a man lay at his wife’s feet outside the Lahore High Court and begged her to forgive him, but the wife’s heart did not melt and so his entreaties were to no avail.

Lucrative friendship?


According to Daily Express (16 Feb 2017), former president General (retd.) Pervez Musharraf admitted to having accepted monetary assistance from then Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz to buy apartments in London and Dubai in 2009. The former president stated that the King was like a brother to him, that he had access to the Royal residence and that he was the only person in whose company the King smoked tobacco.

In the context of corruption allegations against the Prime Minister, Daily Express (17 Feb 2017) quoted PTI chief Imran Khan as saying that in Pakistan, cats (billay) had been assigned to guard the milk.

According to Daily Dunya (18 Feb 2017), the Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions Lt. Gen. (retd.) Abdul Qadir Baloch was observed to be falling asleep during a Senate session, despite repeated attempts to wake him up.

“Life sentence”?


It was reported by Daily Dunya (18 Feb 2017) that during a hearing for an appeal in the case of a man who married his second wife without the permission of the first, his lawyer stated that marriage appeared to be a life sentence, that his client had two wives and that therefore he ought to be shown leniency. To this, Justice Qazi Faez Isa in his remarks responded that a wife was not a life sentence but a blessing from God.

Daily Dunya (18 Feb 2017) quoted reports that amongst protesters outside the University of Chicago, children beat a likeness of President Donald Trump to vent their anger (barhaas nikaali).

According to Daily Dunya (18 Feb 2017), during the selection process for constables of the police in Kasur, four individuals were arrested for running in the place of their friends during physical examinations. Police conducted biometric testing to identify these individuals.

Tortoise race?


Daily Dunya (18 Feb 2017) stated that the Indian people were suffering the consequences of Prime Minister Modi’s regular ‘dramas’ (roz ke dramay aur kaarnamay), and that hunger and poverty were taking their toll not just on the Indian people but also on soldiers. On the other hand, it was stated, economic reforms in Pakistan meant that it had defeated India the economic sphere. A report by the Index of Economic Freedom Ranking, issued by an American think-tank, was cited: with Pakistan ranking number 141 and India at number 143.

Too much dry-cleaning?


Daily Dunya (19 Feb 2017) quoted former Governor of Sindh Ishrat-ul-Ibad as saying that he had quit over the dry-cleaning of people. The former Governor was quoted as saying that people were being dry-cleaned and then included in political parties.
