Wedding bells?

They say we’re going to hear wedding bells chiming before long. Apparently, the scions of two (very) prominent political families are about to tie the knot. The young man and woman have known each other for some time – and not only because their daddies were at the top of the heap in the last dispensation – but because they’ve been at university together. So, it’s the best of both worlds – the families approve of their choice, and vice versa! If this rumour is true, we’re delighted for the couple and wish them the very best.

Who’s that?

Our mole reports that recently The Man of Steel’s Talented Bro picked up the phone and called a high official of a government department on his hot line. Direct. “Hello. Is that Mr X?” asked Talented Bro. “Yes, who’s that?” “Mein Shahbaz Sharif bol raha hoon”, came the reply. The official just couldn’t believe it; he thought it was a prank. “Kon Shahbaz Sharif?” he asked belligerently. “Oho bhai, Khadim-e-aala!” came the reply.

Needless controversy

The appointment of the khakis’ new top gun has become mired in needless controversy. First there was all that hullaballoo about the extension that never was – neither solicited, nor given. And now various candidates’ supporters are jockeying for the position, the competition taking ugly turns with allegations flying thick and fast about religious allegiances, family backgrounds, probity in dealings etc. All this is grist for the chattering classes’ mills and some of it is being played out on the media. Until the khakis read out the riot act to the shriller exponents and they quietened down. All of this could have been avoided if things had been allowed to proceed naturally. If the PM’s office could’ve made the announcement in their own good time, without immense pressure being exerted, first to grant the extension and now to delay it as much as possible.
