Iftikhar Thakur goes to court against Indian movies

Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (September 3, 2015) famous comedian Iftikhar Thakur has challenged the exhibition of Indian movies in Pakistan in the Lahore High Court. India is killing innocent Pakistanis and carrying out a propaganda campaign against Pakistan, but some Pakistanis are showing Indian films in their cinemas because of their greed for money.

Live 200-KV transformer stolen from Lahore neighborhood

Dunya reports (September 3, 2015) a live 200-KV power transformer was mysteriously stolen from a neighborhood of Lahore.  Local people burned tyres to block the area’s main road in protest, alleging that the transformer had been stolen by Wapda employees.

Complainant turned out to be the robber

Reported in Express (September 4, 2015) a burger shop cashier who was asked to deposit Rs 0.5 million in the bank stole the money and called police saying he had been robbed. The local SHO interrogated him to find out the truth, and locked him up.

‘Hijab is bigger threat to Europe than atom bomb’

Professor taught a lesson

Ten boys beat up a professor in Lahore after he told them not to harass girls, Jang reports (September 6, 2015). The boys would stand outside his academy and tease the girls who studied there.

Tax authorities freeze PIA’s accounts

Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (September 6, 2015) the federal board of revenue froze the accounts of Pakistan International Airlines for not paying taxes. The national flag carrier could not pay salaries to 15,000 employees in August.

Tricksters flee with 25 Eid goats

In a market for sacrificial animals set up in Sheikhupura before Eid, tricksters (nau sar baz) fooled a vendor and run away with 25 goats, Dunya reports (September 7, 2015). They paid him Rs 125,000 for his entire flock, but the notes were counterfeit.

10,000 restaurants in Lahore sell dead chicken

According to Dunya (September 9, 2015) a government report says 10,000 restaurants in Lahore use dead chicken meat in pizzas, burgers and shawarmas. The meat comes from suburban towns and is sold at Rs 40 to Rs 60 a kilogram. Shawarmas typically have 250 grams of chicken and are sold for as low as Rs 30.

MPA kicked out of Punjab Assembly for using mobile phone

Jang reports (September 9, 2015) a member of Punjab Assembly was kicked out of a session for using his mobile phone. When he returned, he could not submit an adjournment motion because the time for that had lapsed while he was outside.
