Months after winning the world cup, Pakistan was on its first tour of England since a bitter series hosted by Pakistan known for the Mike Gatting-Shakoor Rana controversy in 1987/1988. Tensions were high throughout the tour, as Aaqib Javed was warned for intimidatory bowling, Pakistan complained consistently of poor umpiring, and Waseem Akram and Waqar Younis were accused of ball tampering by the British media.

The two fast bowlers devastated the English lower order with their reverse swing, but that is not the only way they contributed to Pakistan's 2-1 victory in the test series. In the test at Lords where this picture was taken, the two Ws put up a 46 run partnership in the second innings to lead Pakistan to victory.
