Day of horrors

Steadily and sickeningly, we are getting more details of the massacre at the Army Public School, Peshawar, on December 16. This day of horrors included the terrorists accosting a teacher at the school, asking if she was a brigadier’s wife. When the lady said “yes”, she was tied to a chair, doused in kerosine and set alight in front of her pupils. It appears the terrorists initially tried to pick out the children of army officers before beginning their indiscriminate massacre. When some innocents raised their hands to a question, “whose father is in the army?”, they were done away with brutally.

Reset at the top

It’s obvious that General Bob is a no-nonsense, straight-forward soldier of the old school. He’s a welcome change from Canny & Co who presided over a failed security policy in what can only be described as a decade of disaster. We hear General Bob went post-haste to see the Afghan president, along with evidence implicating Fazullah’s group in the Dec 16 Peshawar school massacre. We hear he took with him Afghan sims and evidence of calls traced back to safe havens in Kunar and Nuristan. He also cited evidence of a high Afghan government official’s meetings with Khorasani of the IS in Nuristan. We hope this reset of thinking at the top will trickle down to the lower orders, and a comprehensive anti-terror policy will be fashioned making no distinction between terrorists.
