Discreet presence

Last week, a senior retired khaki passed away and his funeral prayers took place at a cantonment mosque in Lahore. As the mourners milled around, they found a quiet gentleman sitting in the front row, without fuss or protocol. It was soon discovered that the discreet presence was that of General Bobby, whereupon there was a bit of a crush, with all and sundry trying to get an intro to the gent. In another happening related to Gen Bob, the son of a former Prime Minister was held up in Rawalpindi traffic recently, on his way to a court hearing. The VIP for whom traffic was stopped turned out to be Gen Bob and the former PM’s son was eventually late for his court hearing. As a result of this, the young man had a right go at Bob on social media. Interestingly, this was ignored by The Great Khan and his “youthias” who adopted a cautious silence on social media as opposed to the almighty ruckus they kicked up in the famous matter of two politicians on a PIA flight.

Increasingly frustrated

The Punjab Guv who gave up his foreign nationality and a pleasant and predictable existence in cooler climes to take up a challenge in his native land, is finding life increasingly frustrating in the Land of the Pure. Schooled in the true democratic traditions of British politics, the Guv’s doors are open to all, no matter what their political persuasion. He is also a doer par excellence and given his restricted ambit as per the constitution, he tries to do whatever he can. Our mole reports that both these attributes – the Guv’s accessibility and resourcefulness – have not gone down well with The Man of Steel’s Talented Bro.
