Interior minister jealous of defence minister

According to Express (September 11, 2014) when Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar saw Defence Minister Khwaja Asif sitting next to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Parliament, he went to the back benches. Sheikh Aftab and Zahid Hamid came to persuade him to come to the front (mananay aye) but he refused. When Finance Minister Ishaq Dar began his speech, Nisar left and went to his chamber.

Angry consumers run away with LESCO computers

Reported in Jang (September 11, 2014), baton-wielding demonstrators protesting against a prolonged power outage attacked a Lahore Electric Supply Company office. They tortured the staff, ransacked the building, burnt the records, broke the furniture and ran away with the computers at the office. The outage was caused by a faulty transformer that could not be replaced because the company was out of transformers.

Punjab Civil Secretariat building declared dangerous

Reported in Nai Baat (September 12, 2014), Punjab Health Department has declared the Civil Secretariat building very dangerous, and posted a note on the premises, creating concern among the employees (tashweesh ki leher). Files stored in the building are already likely damaged because of leaking roofs.

Hired protesters say PTI official held them hostage

According to Nawa-e-Waqt (September 12, 2014) four boys and three girls from Arifwala have accused a PTI official of holding them hostage in the party’s sit-in in Islamabad refusing to return their identity cards. They said he had paid them Rs 10,000 each for three days, but forced them to stay for an extra 25 days, only letting them go when they threatened to speak to the media.

Sheikh Rashid pays electricity bill by mistake

Reported in Dunya (September 13, 2014) Sheikh Rashid was asked why he had paid his electricity bill in spite of Imran Khan’s call for civil disobedience. He said the bill had been deposited mistake (ghalti say jama ho gya) and he wouldn’t do it again.

Chaudhry Shujaat recites Azaan in wrong order

Jang reports (September 13, 2014) that Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain forgot the order of the words of the Azaan at Dr Tahirul Qadri’s protest. He had come to meet the PAT leader, after which he recited the call for prayer, in the wrong order.

DJ Butt catches up on sleep in jail

Quoted in Dunya (September 14, 2014) Imran Khan’s famous sound system provider DJ Butt says he hadn’t slept properly in a month. He was able to catch up on sleep when he was arrested and put in jail.  Now he is fresh and will go back to his duty.

Angry Roedad Khan yells at reporter

Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (September 14, 2014) late military dictator Ziaul Haq’s interior secretary Roedad Khan was among the people who freed PTI workers from police custody. He told reporters he had broken the law to save Pakistan’s future, and that he did not recognize the Section 144.  When a reported asked a scathing question, Roedad Khan said: “You get out!”

Saima cries without glycerin

Express reports (September 15, 2014) that actress Saima Noor proved her mettle (senior honay ka saboot diya) when she was able to cry with tears without using glycerin during the shooting of a movie.  The director and the production team clapped for her.

Qadri thinks there’s a five-rupee note

According to Jang (September 15, 2014) Tahirul Qadri surprised his listeners (hairat zada reh gaye) when he urged them to write ‘Go Nawaz Go’ on five-rupee currency notes. The newspaper said the Canadian citizen did not know that five-rupee notes had been canceled years ago.

Quoted in Dunya (September 16, 2014), Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi says it looks like Nawaz Sharif asked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to send floods to Pakistan to divert attention from the sit-ins in Islamabad.

Flood victims attack Jamshed Dasti

Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (September 16, 2014) PTI legislator Jamshed Dasti was passing by villagers protesting against the flooding of their farmlands in order to save Muzaffargarh city. They attacked his car, took him out and tortured him. He had to run away on a motorcycle.
