Begum Para, a Bollywood heartthrob famous in the 1940s and 1950s, poses for veteran photographer James Burke for a Life magazine photo shoot in 1951.

She appeared in 17 films before leaving the film industry, but made a comeback 50 years later in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya.

Married to Dilip Kumar’s brother Nasir Khan, she had three children. One of them was the actor Ayub Khan. Begum Para was the sister of the late Maj ”Bobby” Haq, whose daughter Sherri was one of the wives of former Punjab governor Mustafa Khar.

She died on 9th December 2008, at the age of 81.
