Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (June 10, 2014), a police offer pointed a gun at a magistrate in court after he denied the police a physical remand of a suspect. The Sindh High Court Bar Association called a strike in the lower courts in protest.

Engineers used fake MQM letterpads for extortion

Reported in Jang (July 10, 2014), CIA arrested two men in Karachi for using a forged MQM letterpad to extort money from traders. One of them was a software engineer and other one a mechanical engineer.

Taliban jailbreak fugitive caught at checkpost

Reported in Jang (July 10, 2014), a convict who had fled after the Taliban broke the Dera Ismail Khan jail last year was caught while passing a checkpost.

Police protest after fight with lawmaker’s guards

According to Dunya (July 11, 2014), the security guards of a PML-N legislator in Quetta had a fight with policemen (hatha pai) when they entered the security zone around the Civil Secretariat. Two cops were injured. Police shut down the gates of the Civil Secretariat in protest, creating problems for lawmakers, officials and the public.

Imran Khan announces Iftar before Iftar

There was disorder at an Iftar gathering of Tehrik-e-Insaf  (badnazmi ka shikar ho gai) after their chairman Imran Khan mistakenly made the workers break their fasts several minutes early, Express reports (July 11, 2014). The workers attacked the food (khanay par toot parray), and women workers decided to stay away from the tables (bhooka ghar jana parra).

Blacklisted Chinese company now works in power sector

According to Nawa-e-Waqt (July 11, 2014), a Chinese company that was blacklisted for supplying substandard railway engines after the emergence of a corruption scandal that resulted in the arrest of a minister and several senior officials, is still working on various large power projects in Pakistan, including the Nandipur power plant.

Meera falls unconscious after fasting

Reported in Express (July 12, 2014) actress Meera is so stressed these days that she fell unconscious at the time of Iftar, and was taken to hospital. Doctors said she has been fasting and passed out because of weakness, and advised complete rest for a week.

Traffic wardens beat up journalist and run away

According to Express (July 12, 2014), four traffic wardens beat up a journalist (tashaddud ka nishana bana dala) in Lahore. He was on his way home when they stopped him and were rude to him (badtameezi shuru kar di). The journalist was taken to hospital in a state of unconsciousness, and the traffic wardens ran away.

NADRA loses Ishaq Dar’s data

Reported in Nawa-e-Waqt (July 12, 2014), Finance Minister Ishaq Dar went to a NADRA office and gave them his fingerprints and biodata in order to get his identity card renewed. But they lost all his data because of a computer malfunction and asked him to visit again.

Malala forgets hometown, hometown forgets Malala

Reported in Dunya (July 13, 2014), while the entire world celebrated Malala Day on her seventeenth birthday on July 12, the people of her hometown said she had forgotten them because she was lost in the glamor of Europe (Europe ki rangeen dunya main magan ho kar), and they had forgotten her. She has collected donations from around the world, but has not spent even a single rupee on education in her hometown.

Heart patients run as fire breaks out in hospital

Dunya reports (July 13, 2014) a fire broke out in the emergency ward of the Institute of Cardiology in Lahore. The room was filled with smoke, and the patients began to run (mareezon ki dorrain lag gai).

Terrorist joined Al Qaeda to pay off loan

Reported in Jang (July 13, 2014) a terror suspect caught with weapons and suicide attack vests in Okara told police that he was trained in Waziristan and had planned a series of attacks in Ramzan, and that he had joined Al Qaeda to pay off a Rs 200,000 debt.
