At least two people have been killed and 19 more wounded in a series of explosions that targeted Taliban vehicles in the eastern city of Jalalabad in Afghanistan.
These are the first attacks of such a nature since the deadly attack at the Kabul airport in which more than 100 people lost their lives. The Kabul attack had been claimed by the Islamic State group.
Today’s attacks in Nangarhar province have been confirmed by health authorities in the region. Images from the blast site showed the wreckage of a vehicle with a Taliban flag on it, with fighters looking on.
Jalalabad is the capital city of Nangarhar province, where the Islamic State group is known to have a significant presence.
