Fashion By T.U. Dawood

T.U. Dawood takes fashion advice for 2013 from Pakistan's style gurus

"Hemlines will begin to inch upwards"

Sana Hashwani (Sana Safinaz):

We have been trying to give a firm and final goodbye to the ground-sweeping lengths and multiple kali's. 2013 will be shorter and more steamlined. Our Retail evening line will have a lot more emphasis on draping and strong colors.

Rizwan Beyg:

2013 will be all about textiles as we plan to launch a line of affordable printed fabrics, some embroidered and a line of stitched garments as pret. Fabrics will include cotton, linen, silk and jute. The color palette will be vibrant and garments will work as mix'n'match separates.

Iman Ahmed (Body Focus Museum):

In the new year, Spring/Summer 2013 is the first to greet us with the promise of a newer kind of modern femininity. The freedom to choose from color to non-color: black and white, citrus as well as hot and vibrant tones of paprika and chili pepper. Lengths will be inconsequential. Clothes will have soft volume and a relaxed sense of 50's style; flowing fluid chiffons as well as voiles. A lot of patchwork, fringes, some reinterpretations of oriental influences in cuts, embroidery and print are a few trends that Body Focus Museum will be interplaying in its collections for 2013.

Kamiar Rokni (The House of Kamiar Rokni):

"It's all about summer fun with bold prints" - Maheen Karim

"I am predicting an explosion of animal motifs and chintz" - Kamiar Rokni

I am feeling a return to ethnic this summer. I predict that we may see more of the salwar and more variations in short lengths as well. I am also predicting an explosion of animal motifs and chintz.

Maheen Karim:

I see the 2013 trends being extremely girlie with a lot of chikan and lace in whites, yellows and pastels. Feminine chic with higher hemlines and even higher heels. It's all about summer fun with bold prints and flirty skirts and dresses. I'm looking forward to the summer wardrobe!

Nida Azwer:

The cuts for 2013 hem lines are going up slightly for pret wear. Cuts are a little more tapered yet they will remain flowy, as our summer weather doesn't allow us to wear fitted silhouettes.

Colors for 2013: fresh colors for spring like poppy red, emerald green and nectarine.

Style trend for 2013: easy chic, fun prints for pret wear. Elegant flowy cuts for wedding wear with classic farshi ghararas.

Fabric we will be seeing this year: lots of cotton, voile, Chantilly lace, cotton net and chiffons.

Fashions that will be done away with: day-wear shirts that reach your ankle.

Sania Maskatiya:

"The color of the year is emerald green" - Aalia Jafar

The fashion forecast for 2013 is a lot of print and geometrics. Other fashion trends to watch are clean straight-lined silhouettes, hemlines going up and smart, tapered, cropped trousers.

Misha Lakhani:

2013 will see some continuation of the shapes from last season and some shorter hemlines, surface texture, prints and a mix of easy throw-on pieces and silhouettes. We're excited about oversized tunic tops and cutwork.

"Our summer weather doesn't allow us to wear fitted silhouettes" - Nida Azwer

The color of the year is emerald green, which will feature in our collections throughout the year, along with neon add-ons. The trend for long tops will remain strong as it is the most flattering and graceful. However we do plan to put some short lengths in for some who would like the change. Simple and understated elegance is our brand philosophy and that will continue to show through the coming year.

Sahar Atif (Saai):

Mass retail trends for the upcoming seasons will all be playing with a lot of print which we see abundantly in the summer, but the same concept will trickle into fall and Eid collections too. Printed satin and customized crepes will be a big thing in semi-formal wear. Hemlines will begin to inch upwards and a silhouette will become straighter and cleaner.

Sofia Naveed (SNL):

2013 will be a psychedelic year again. We will see a lot of color. Casual shirts will be tapered and knee-length, teamed with skinnies and tights. Flared printed pants with short tops will stay in fashion. Different patterns and cuts will be introduced in 2013. As for colors: sage green, orange, cobalt blue, plum, lemons and reds will rule.

Clothing needs to have a style, it needs to be bold and bright and the 2013 fashion trends will follow the same rule - only bigger and bolder because this gives clothes a personality.

Nida Asad Tapal (Delphi):

Delphi's 2013 collection will consist of straight lines, celebrating the female silhouette. Handwoven silk crochet jackets with zardozi work and Swarovski crystals; angarkha and saris- layered with fine silks and chiffons... neoclassical appeal; fit enough to be worn at a big wedding, party or can adorn any red carpet.

Lengths will be kept very long or knee length with the focus on good finish and tailoring. No more volumes! Time for the ladies to hit the treadmills!
